Are you going to be available on Azure Marketplace?
Thanks,
Richard.
Are you going to be available on Azure Marketplace?
Thanks,
Richard.
Our team is currently working through the integration with the Azure Marketplace. We are getting the support we require from Microsoft on this issue, and we are optimistic that we will be able to release an offering within the next month. This may be a private beta, or a public beta - those details are still being finalized.
We appreciate your patience on this matter as we know our timelines have extended beyond what we originally hoped.
We continue to actively work on our Azure offering, and our development efforts have recently transitioned into integration testing and user acceptance testing. We still can't nail down a firm date for when the offering will go live, but this is our top priority and we are putting the necessary resources on the feature in order to get it in your hands as soon as possible.
Nice Dan - appreciate the update :)
I just want to make sure I have things right. When RavenHQ is available in the Azure marketplace, we're going to be able to use RavenHQ hosted in our Azure "data center?" I'm assuming we'll be able to pick any of the existing Azure regions? This should alleviate the problem of outbound data bandwidth usage correct?
Will we be able to move our existing databases from AWS to Azure?
Sorry... so many questions. ;)
I know you have all been waiting patiently for our Azure launch, and I'm happy that to finally announce that we have a release date set for the week of July 21 - 25, 2014!
This release will enable you to provision databases via the Azure Marketplace or www.ravenhq.com, and we will have a new set of plans available for you to choose from. We are not planning on providing an automated migration from AWS to Azure, that is something that you will need to do with existing tools like RavenDB Smuggler.
For our initial launch, we only plan on supporting the East US region in Azure. If you'd like us to support additional Azure regions, let us know here in the forums!
West US for initial launch as well?
Why only East US? I need support for EU regions. Also, any word on pricing?
We've created feature requests for the remaining Azure regions in the US and Europe that we are considering expansion to after our initial launch in the East US region. You can vote for which regions you'd like to see us go to next here: https://ravenhq.zendesk.com/forums/20761111-New-Feature-Requests
With regards to pricing, we are still doing some internal testing with a few different plan configurations. The pricing information will be available at the time of launch.
Just support every region MS Azure offers. The whole reason for wanting to have a RavenDB instance inside Azure is to alleviate the outbound bandwidth costs for every call to the RavenHQ hosted database. If you don't support putting it inside any region, you alienate anyone who is not hosted specifically in your supported region, and geo-load balanced systems will not effectively be able to rely on it.
My code is currently in the East Asia region, to be nearest my customers.
Chad points out one thing very clearly: we don't really care where are our databases hosted at, but the latency and legal issues make that our problem.
What is the reason behind not supporting all Azure regions?
Even if we have to pay a bit more for EU North for example, I would still have better response times hosting database there, compared to any US server.
And all in all it is cheaper to have everything in one data center.
Please, don't make fun of us by saying:
Joining Azure Marketplace*
* Only East US region
Any update on this please?
We are happy to announce that effective immediately, RavenHQ is available in Azure! You can provision an Azure database in the East US region via www.ravenhq.com, or via the Azure Marketplace. Our plan details can be found at https://www.ravenhq.com/pricing.html. Let us know if you have any questions!
Dan
Great start, any timeline when the other Azure regions will be added? Can't use RavenHQ on Azure until I can choose all the regions my apps are hosted in. See my comment from July 8th.
Thanks, can't wait to begin using this on Azure!
I would be great if you make an option for RavenDB in Europe's Windows Azure . All my projects are in Europe!
+1 for Azure RavenHQ on Europe ASAP!
We have been receiving a number of questions regarding why we are supporting only the East US region at launch, and we wanted to provide some more transparency into our decision making here.
There is a significant cost and commitment involved in running RavenHQ in each region that we support. We have hard costs related to the virtual machine instances, inbound & outbound traffic, licencing, monitoring, backups, and support personnel. Because of this significant expense, we need to gauge the customer interest in each region to determine if we can profitably expand our services there. If we only have a handful of people interested in paying for a database in a particular region, we simply can't justify an expansion there.
We have made significant investment in our infrastructure that has enabled us to support Azure and we can leverage that investment to quickly expand to additional regions. We've setup different topics in this forum that you can use to vote for the Azure region that you would like to see us expand to next.
As always, we welcome your feedback and we would like to hear any suggestions that you may have on how we can improve our offering.
Thanks!
Dan
What's the status for expanding into other regions (North Europe etc). How much input will be needed for you to go ahead and open a specific region. I think that you'll never get sufficient information before actually open a region. I need North Europe (or at least Europe) ASAP! So please go ahead. Customers will come.
Hi Bjorn, we launched support for the Europe North region in Azure last week. Let us know if there are other regions you are hoping to see us support, and we'll take that into consideration when we're planning our roadmap.
